Bulgaria and Egypt will strengthen their cooperation in a number of sectors of mutual interest. This became clear during the Second Session of the Bulgarian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, which was held in Cairo. This is the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in nearly six years.
The Minister of Economy and Industry, Petar Dilov, is the Chairman of the Bulgarian part of the Commission, while the Egyptian delegation is led by Dr. Rania Al Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation.
The two ministers signed a bilateral Protocol, which clearly emphasizes a commitment to closer cooperation in key sectors. Petar Dilov and Dr. Rania Al Mashat pointed out that the Second Session marks a new beginning in the bilateral economic dialogue and gives a new impetus to expand bilateral relations. Investment, innovation, industrial development and partnership between companies from both sides will be encouraged.
The meeting agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, defense industry, energy, agriculture and food industry, tourism, digitalization and information and communication technologies, etc.
The ministers pointed out that small and medium-sized enterprises are the engine of growth and employment in both economies and promoting partnership between them is key. “Economic relations between Bulgaria and Egypt are entering a new stage“, emphasized Minister Dilov.
According to him, the intensification of cooperation can turn traditionally good relations into concrete investments, joint production and sustainable growth in key strategic sectors.
A Bulgarian-Egyptian Business Forum will also be held within the framework of the meeting with the participation of 26 Bulgarian companies operating in a wide range of priority sectors.
For the period January-August 2025, the bilateral trade between Bulgaria and Egypt amounted to 670 million USD.
