Stefan Sofianski: It is a huge mistake that we are now entering the Eurozone. This is the most inappropriate moment - 1

"In 1997, the situation from an economic point of view was more difficult. It is difficult, but it is very important to know what you are doing and to take responsibility. Then President Stoyanov and I, as Prime Minister, took responsibility. Now the political forces are hiding, the president does not have the authority to form any cabinet he wants,", former caretaker prime minister and former mayor of Sofia Stefan Sofianski told Bulgaria ON AIR.

According to him, the parliament is currently "impotent" and will not take responsibility either.

What did the protests achieve

According to Sofianski, the protesters did not demonstrate so directly against the government as against the system in Bulgaria.

"People do not approve of this system, which is a replica of the communist era. A stratum of people used the state for personal needs. The system was ineffective and communism fell. It is the same now. We have people who single-handedly impose a system against the people's conscience", is the opinion of the guest of the show "Denyat ON AIR".

Bulgaria meters from the Eurozone

"It is a huge mistake that we are now entering the Eurozone. The right moment must be chosen, now is the most inappropriate. This is tension. You have a political and economic crisis, and you are putting off the introduction of the euro, which is a complication," insisted Sofianski.

The former mayor of Sofia is of the opinion that we have not been able to use our membership in the European Union (EU).

"We are the poorest country and in last place in the EU by all standards," Sofianski pointed out and added that Europe gives us money, but we do not use it: "The money from Europe has disappeared".

Bulgaria's economy above all

A caretaker government can do a lot of work, but if it is not hindered, the interlocutor believes.

"We got the priorities wrong. We should have put the money from Europe into the economy. We will produce more and raise the incomes of workers, and then pensions. Then bring in the euro. Now we will get over it. The caretaker government will bear all the responsibility. Who will take responsibility for the caretaker government? It should focus on implementing the Recovery and Development Plan," Sofianski explained.

The old version of the Constitution was more correct, he noted, adding that incompetence reigned during the rule of Boyko Borisov.

The extended budget is an artificially inflated problem, Sofianski concluded.
