The Internal Security Committee approved the draft law on NSO, also concerning the security of Delyan Peevski - 1

The meeting of the Committee on Internal Security and Public Order in the National Assembly has begun, at which the deputies must assess whether there is still a need for the security of the leader of the MRF and the parliamentary group of "DPS-New Beginning" Delyan Peevski, Novini.bg reported.

The deputy from "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (PP-DB) Bozhidar Bozanov said that it is important for them to understand how much Peevski's security cost us.

We are talking about a service that has a budget 1/20 of that of the Ministry of Interior. When there is one deputy who is more protected than the president and the prime minister, we must ask ourselves how this happens. Society needs to know, said Ivaylo Mirchev from PP-DB.

We need to think seriously before making reforms in the services. It does not sound and is not ethical for citizens to be treated as second-hand people and not to receive security like the MPs from the NSO. We need to consider changes in this direction. I am “for“ what is being proposed, but let it be more differentiated and specified, said Prof. Nikolay Radulov from MECH. According to him, the NSO and Intelligence should work together.

Chairman Manoil Manev from GERB specified that there are many things in the bill that need to be ironed out.

Former Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov from PP-DB recalled that some time ago, Boyko Borisov was assigned security as a threatened person and allowed the use of SRS for certain politicians. He asked the head of the National Security Service whether he had received a letter from Peevski regarding his security. In this sense, please inform us, because there is serious public outrage regarding this security.

The answer was that there was such a letter, but the committee had not met to consider it.

“Vazrazhdane“ stated that they would support the bill.

Earlier today, the leader of the MRF and the parliamentary group of "DPS-New Beginning" Delyan Peevski sent a letter to the head of the National Security Service (NSS) and the Specialized Committee under Art. 23 of the NSS Law. The letter requests the competent authority to rule on a decision of the Committee under Art. 23 whether there has been a change in circumstances and is there currently a specific threat, due to which his security should be continued.

Peevski stated his intention on the sidelines of the National Assembly to submit a request to the members of the Commission to assess whether there is a need for his security.

Previously, Ivaylo Mirchev from "Continuing the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" said that the commission would request the removal of Delyan Peevski's security.

The draft law on the NSO was adopted unanimously on first reading with 18 votes "for".

The draft law, submitted by Ivaylo Mirchev and deputies from the PP-DB, aims to amend the current NSO Law and mainly regulate which persons can be protected by the NSO. The bill prohibits the National Security Service from guarding members of parliament, with the exception of the Speaker of the National Assembly.
