„BSP – United Left“ is already actively preparing for the upcoming elections. This was stated by the chairman of the National Council of the party, Atanas Zafirov, in response to a question about whether he intends to resign as a political leader. According to his words, quoted by BTA, the party's focus is entirely on the electoral process and the assessment of its participation in the government.
Zafirov commented on the topic during a pre-Christmas event at the registration and reception center of the State Agency for Refugees in the capital's „Ovcha Kupel“ quarter. Together with the chairman of the agency, Ivan Ivanov, he delighted 21 young refugees with gifts days before Christmas.
“The most important topic at the moment is precisely the elections, the result of our participation in the government, and anyone who tries to shift the center of gravity from these issues is an enemy of the BSP and Bulgaria“, emphasized Zafirov. He added that the decisions that are about to be made will be in accordance with the internal party documents and rules.
„As a person who is not indifferent to the future of not only the BSP, but also the entire left, I want to assure you that we are about to make the most correct and accurate decisions in the manner in which they are written in our documents and rules“, the Chairman of the National Council also stated.
Earlier this week, the BSP executive bureau resigned without Atanas Zafirov and scheduled a meeting of the National Council for January 10, 2026. The decision was made as an act of collective responsibility.
The party then indicated that at this important moment for the state and the BSP, the main goal is to calm the situation and guide the left through the upcoming political challenges, including the preparation for the elections.
