Five cars burned in a fire in Plovdiv, and a sixth was damaged. Investigators are checking the version of arson. No one was injured in the incident.
The fire broke out at around 4 a.m. this morning on “Brothers Buxton“ Street in the “South” district of Plovdiv. Nearby residents say they heard a loud explosion, after which the flames engulfed the parked cars.
According to initial information, the fire started in a new car driven by a young man. There are suspicions that the car may have been doused with flammable liquid, but this is yet to be determined by the investigation, Nova TV reports.
The Plovdiv fire department reported that a total of five vehicles, including a minibus, burned down. A sixth vehicle was damaged. Thanks to the quick response of the firefighters, 12 other cars in the area were saved.
A woman who witnessed the fire said that the fire crews arrived just a few minutes after the alarm was raised.
“In three or four minutes, no more. The neighbors called the fire department“, she said. According to her, explosions were also heard in the area. “I heard it when it was already burning. It's sizzling, the fire department is putting it out“, the woman added.
Local residents also believe that the fire may have been started intentionally, but for now this remains only one of the versions. A pre-trial investigation has been opened into the case. The investigation must establish where exactly the fire started and what the cause of the fire is.
