We all laughed at Kiril Petkov's nonsense about the allegedly huge jump in the fertility of Bulgarians under his rule, but it is nice to see the real data in addition to the jokes, because they are not funny at all.
For this, he called in a comment on "Facebook" the analyst and commentator Christian Shkvarek.

Fertility and birth rate are two different metrics, and the jump in the former in Petkov's graph is entirely the result of a statistical error in a study since the last census.
In fact, last year the UN "raised" Bulgaria from the second fastest disappearing nation in the world to the first.
We have overtaken the Baltic countries and officially become the fastest melting country on Earth. By 2050, the demographic catastrophe here will be unprecedented compared to any other country.
Urgent and radical measures are needed to increase the birth rate to at least the basic 2.1. This is precisely the cause of Family Month and the big Parade we are organizing on June 22.
In Bulgaria there is a ministry and an agency for every possible stupidity, but there is no literally the most important one: the Ministry of Demography.
The country must urgently adopt this cause as a major national project and the parties should adopt the rule that every cabinet will necessarily issue a deputy prime minister on the demographic issue.
