The election campaign started with a serious corruption scandal and I think the tone of the campaign will only intensify. It takes a lot of effort and a combination of factors to fight corruption in the country.

"In recent days, the relationship between the former partners in the cabinet "Denkov" became very acute. Still, we've seen enough political twists and turns. The results of the election will show whether there can be a similar governing configuration again. The problem in what was said is obvious because it has created certain expectations for political parties. PP-DB will have this problem, because now their voters will accuse them of having united with those they called mafia. Politicians must use words very carefully, because everything that happens in our country is observed in Europe, and this political talk is rather harmful at the moment. For me, the corruption scandal in "Customs" it didn't explode by accident just now. The aim is to discredit the former rulers of PP-DB, which does not mean that the former chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is not guilty. For me, it is a political mistake that the PP-DB did not separate themselves from the former general secretary and continue to sit behind him. We have also seen previous election campaigns start with similar scandals, which aim to discredit certain political persons and parties," the political scientist recalled.
"Parties must explain to their voters. what policies they will pursue if they want to be successful. At the moment, it is not the case with us, because the parties have shrunk a lot and use all kinds of methods to attract a given vote. Populism such as giving Easter supplements is also used. Unfortunately, I can say that the national election campaign will supersede the European one. The campaign for the European elections will sink like messages. This is true not only in Bulgaria, but also in Europe. Turnout will depend on several factors. If these scandals are exaggerated and overdone, it may have the opposite effect and the voters of the PP-DB will mobilize and become more active", predicts Prof. Milen Lyubenov.
