„We have submitted a very detailed report to the registry about our work, as well as to the members of the National Council of the BSP“, said in the program “Face to Face“ on bTV, MEP Elena Yoncheva.
„The adopted Migration Pact was very important for the European Union. The negotiations were very important for Bulgaria, because the pact canceled the Dublin Regulation, which burdened our country. The European Union is a broken yard. We don't know where the migrants come from because they either don't have documents or they are fake. We do not know whether they are fleeing war or economic migrants. Now there will be a mechanism that will return them to third countries”, Elena Yoncheva pointed out.
„Migrants will be returned to Turkey, Morocco, other countries or safe zones where there is no war. Afghanistan is unstable as a country, but there are areas where there is stability and human rights can be guaranteed. Migrants will be sent back. The return will not be a commitment of Bulgaria, as it was until now, but will be of the European Union. We have won this battle in the European Parliament”, she added.
Will Elena Yoncheva be a candidate for MEP from BSP in 2024?
„As the leader of the BSP list in the 2019 elections, we scored five MEPs (Elena Yoncheva, Sergey Stanishev, Petar Vitanov, Tsvetelina Penkova and Ivo Hristov – note ed.). Now it depends on how many seats they want the BSP to win in the European Parliament. I have always stood up for a cause both in journalism and in politics. I have had a clear civic position. The goals I have set for myself have succeeded – The migration pact, media legislation protecting journalists, introducing media funding transparency, as well as corruption legislation. I am a member of the Monitoring Group for the Rule of Law, in which there are 14 MEPs out of 705, which put Bulgaria under surveillance. In the resolution that we voted on my proposal, for the first time it is said and acknowledged that measures must be taken for Bulgaria and that there are problems with the rule of law, corruption and media freedom. "Personally, I know that I have done everything possible," commented the MEP.
„I have submitted my report to the BSP and I am sure that my colleagues will be very impressed. We report continuously”, Elena Yoncheva also said.
Bulgarians, hostages of the Houthis
„I have personally asked written questions to the European Commission, to which there has been no answer. I have put an official question to Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs. I also had a personal conversation with him. Unfortunately, I did not receive an encouraging answer that the European Commission has taken measures to release the three EU citizens, two Bulgarians and one Romanian, from the Houthis in Yemen”, the MEP stressed.
Their cargo ship Galaxy Leader was captured was attacked and captured in the Red Sea by the Houthis last November.
„My political family initiated a resolution. She was supported by the “European People's Party” and right-wing parties, for which I want to thank my fellow Bulgarian MEPs, but it did not gather the necessary support. There is a new vote on the resolution, she said.
