Two people from a criminal group , engaged in drug smuggling using aircraft that are difficult to detect in our country, probably assisted Evelin Banev-Brendo.
This is what the acting Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov said in the National Assembly.
According to him, no information can yet be provided as to how Evelin Banev-Brendo returned to Bulgaria.
We remind you that Evelin Banev-Brendo, declared internationally wanted, turned himself in on June 24. Banev's actions were voluntary, as he himself went to the prison in Sofia.
Stoyanov recalled that Banev was convicted a few years ago and during the time he was wanted, there was no evidence that he had crossed the border. He was detained in the Kyiv region only in 2021, but released by the court because he has local citizenship, the minister said.
Stoyanov also indicated that, in parallel with the investigative case on how Banev returned, work is being done on the group that possibly assisted Banev.
