From today, August 5, to August 11, on the territory of a specialized police operation to control speed regimes is underway throughout the country. It is part of the calendar of the European network of traffic police services – ROADPOL, as similar checks are carried out in all member countries of the European network.

From the beginning of the year to the end of July, 3,993 serious traffic accidents occurred on the territory of the country, in which 244 road users died and 4,948 were injured. Compared to the same period last year, there were 236 more serious accidents, but 43 fewer deaths and 20 fewer injured.
Of all serious accidents, 94% are caused by a violation committed by the driver. Of these, 910 accidents occurred due to speed violations, in which 57 people died and 1151 road users were injured. Compared to the same period last year, this year serious traffic accidents for this reason were 47 fewer, the number of deaths - 32, and the injured - 218.
For the first seven months of this year, 788,892 electronic slips were issued for violations of speed limits.
Reducing the speed is a good idea and I think it will work in the right direction, said the Acting Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeikov on the occasion of the proposal to increase the maximum speed on highways in our country from 140 to 130 km per hour.
