Meanwhile, BTA reported that today the crew of the research ship "St. sv. Cyril and Methodius“ (NIK 421) and logisticians from the Bulgarian Antarctic base “St. Kliment Ohridski“ on Livingston Island have carried out another round of loading and unloading activities.
The NIK 421 was loaded with waste construction materials, which were transported from the shore to the ship by “Zodiac“ boats and a pontoon raft. The cargo was arranged on board and then standard daily maintenance of the hull and the material part was carried out. Crew members assisted in the logistics of completing the new laboratory block at the “St. Kliment Ohridski“ base.
Maintenance activities were carried out on the shore and work is underway to complete the laboratory block. Today, scientific research was conducted in the area of the Antarctic base.
The research ship “St. St. Cyril and Methodius“ (NIK 421) sailed from Varna for its third expedition to Antarctica on November 7, 2024 and after almost two months of sailing reached Livingston Island on December 28. The Bulgarian Antarctic base “St. Kliment Ohridski“ was opened for the new polar season on November 23, 2024.
