The investigation into the brutal murder of two children aged 5 and 11 in Vakarel is focusing on the mental state of the mother, who is the main suspect, Nova TV reports.

According to experts, the tragedy is likely related to a severe mental disorder that was not diagnosed or treated. Psychologist Alexander Malinov commented that such crimes are often committed without premeditated intent, but as a result of deep depression or a psychotic state.

"This mother did not wake up with the thought that she would kill her children. Most likely, this is a woman with severe mental suffering. It could be untreated depression or another serious psychiatric problem," said the specialist.

Family members are shocked by what happened, as the family has always seemed close-knit and caring.

The mother is a 31-year-old Ukrainian, and the father is a Bessarabian Bulgarian. The two have been together since their school days, and their children - a boy and a girl - are described as wonderful and well-mannered.

However, in recent months the family has been experiencing difficulties. Recently, only the man has been working, and the mother has been left to take care of the children. They have been living in the house in Vakarel with acquaintances and have been looking for permanent accommodation in Sofia, where the father has found a job. Before that, they lived in Aheloy for about two years. The family has refugee status from Ukraine.

A friend of the family told Nova TV:

"We seemed to take them as an example. They ate healthy, played sports, worked, taught the children, extracurricular activities, karate, for the little one - ballet. They loved each other, i.e. they showed that they were a good family. I have never even seen them fight, to be honest," he says.

He stated that the community of Bessarabian Bulgarians in our country will organize a dignified funeral for the children in this difficult situation.

The investigating authorities will focus on the psychiatric evaluation of the detained mother to establish whether she suffered from an untreated mental illness that led to the tragedy.
