The entire contingent of mental hospitals has always been in the field of view of the Ministry of Interior. The police inspectors are at the forefront. I have always asked why no police inspectors or other Ministry of Interior employees on the front lines have been punished for various violations and incidents on the ground. This was said in the program "Face to Face" on BTV by the former director of the CSBOP Tihomir Stoychev in connection with the increasing number of crimes committed by people with mental disorders.
The mentally ill are not to blame for not organizing consistent, rather than campaign-based monitoring, Stoychev emphasized.
The legislator should have stated how long the rights of such people can be restricted and how they should be controlled. There are early signs in them. Therefore, psychologists, criminologists, and other specialists should now enter schools to see to what extent our society is infected with these problems, he added.
Another problem is that there are very few places in medical institutions for the mentally ill, the expert noted.
In connection with the increasing use of drugs by young people, Tihomir Stoychev commented that the police cannot cope with the problem alone, civil society - parents, teachers - must help them. The strategies developed over the years to deal with this problem must also be followed, the former director of the CSBOP also said.
