Bulgaria welcomes with alarm the UN's information that the death of the Bulgarian citizen Marin Marinov was the result of shelling by an Israeli tank. This is stated in a position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published on the social network X.
„We welcome with alarm the announcement by the UN Secretary-General's spokesperson that, based on the information known so far, the cause of the death of the Bulgarian Marin Marinov and the seriously injured employees of the UN mission in Gaza on March 19, are the result of shelling by an Israeli tank“, our foreign ministry stated.
Bulgaria supports the insistence of Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to conduct a “thorough, full and independent investigation” and expects its results, in accordance with the commitment previously made by the UN and to Bulgaria, the position also states.
„As we have repeatedly stated, only the truth, based on a competent analysis of the events and irrefutable evidence,“ is important to us,“ the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes.
We recall that the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric announced that an Israeli tank shell killed Bulgarian Marin Marinov on March 19 and injured six more people in Gaza.
Among the injured are representatives of France, Moldova, North Macedonia, Palestine and the United Kingdom. The United Nations also announced that it will reduce its presence in the region.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the UN of manipulation. They denied that the murder of Marin Marinov had any connection to the activities of the Israeli army.
