Dead fish and crabs floated from the Cherni Lol River in the area of the Ruse village of Pepelina, BNT reports.
Deputy Regional Governor of Ruse Georgi Georgiev insisted on an urgent inspection. He is of the opinion that there should be severe sanctions if it is established that the pollution was caused by human activity.
Eyewitnesses indicate that unusual foam is observed in the river and a strong smell of sewage is wafting. A team of the RZI has taken samples for examination.
Georgiev also specified that everything possible is being done to discover the source of the pollution as quickly as possible. He emphasized that he is also in constant contact with local authorities.
According to him, there is a readiness to form a crisis headquarters. According to him, however, this is not necessary at the moment. He added that teams on site are scouring the riverbed in order to locate the source of the pollution.
