The GERB-SDF parliamentary group has submitted to the registry of the National Assembly a proposal that the chairman of the State Agency "National Security" (DANS) Plamen Tonchev to be elected Chairman of the Commission for Disclosure of Documents and for Declaration of Affiliation of Bulgarian Citizens to the State Security and Intelligence Services of the Bulgarian People's Army, confirmed to BTA from the parliamentary press center.
On Wednesday (April 30), the deputies decided to open a new procedure for the election of a chairman, deputy chairman, secretary and members of the Commission for Disclosure of Documents and for Declaration of Affiliation of Bulgarian Citizens to the State Security and Intelligence Services of the Bulgarian People's Army. And before the Easter vacation of the National Assembly, they stopped the old procedure. Before it was canceled, GERB-SDF had proposed former constitutional judge Konstantin Penchev to head the commission. He has now been nominated for its deputy chairman.
Plamen Tonchev took up the post of chairman of the National Agency for National Security and Defense in May 2021, when the powers of the previous head of the agency, Dimitar Georgiev, were terminated early. Before the expiration of his mandate in April 2023, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision proposing to President Rumen Radev to reappoint him to the same position.
