We must trust President Radev, who has twice said that such a referendum is unconstitutional. His request is unconstitutional and he was aware of this. Since it is unconstitutional, his act is political. This opinion was expressed by former MP Radomir Cholakov on bTV, quoted by novini.bg.
The second question we must ask ourselves is - Is the National Assembly obliged to consider the request for a referendum and make a decision?, Cholakov believes. And he added that the parliament is not obliged to make a decision on all issues, "the National Assembly can consider a draft law".
He specified that the "Vazrazhdane" referendum was considered in the hall, since the proposal was supported by signatures.
According to Radomir Cholakov, the decision of the Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova is "perfectly correct".
"The request would only open the debate, would trigger a procedure in the Constitutional Court. Another political crisis was planned. Kiselova, with the support of the political forces in the parliament, told him "you will not create a crisis", Cholakov added.
The drama probably ends with the referendum itself. There will be no referendum. In my opinion, it is not needed. I think Kiselova's decision was correct, said Borislav Velikov.
According to him, in this case the Speaker of the National Assembly expressed the will of the parliamentary majority.
