Since the beginning of the year, bears have attacked and killed large domestic animals in Smolyan Region 26 times. The last attack was on June 10, and the day before that, a person died in a bear attack in Greece, near the border with Smolyan Region, bTV reported.
One of the injured livestock breeders, who raises cows on free pasture in the villages of Galabovo and Slivka, is Biser Bozov.
The 360-kilogram cow was killed and kidnapped by a brown bear near a village. The attack is not an isolated case.
„The most attacks are in the area of the State Forest Reserve „Slaveyno“ – the villages of Slivka, Galabovo. In the SGS “Yagodina“ – the village of Buynovo and the village of Trigrad. There are mainly large ruminants – cows and calves that graze in large areas“, commented Georgi Georgiev from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water-Smolyan.
Between the villages of Galabovo and Slivka it turns out that the bear is not one, but two and they are in the mating season.
“When more than two damages are found by the same brown bear, a regional commission proceeds to examine it, which makes a proposal to the Minister of Agriculture and Food to shoot the problematic specimen“, explained Eng. Rumen Evtimov, hunting expert at the South Central State Enterprise-Smolyan.
A shooting permit has already been requested for the bear near Slivka, and the Minister of Agriculture is expected to grant the permit.
