The figure of the head of state, in addition to being a unifier of the nation, is that of a politically active person. The constitution even allows him to be a member of a party, but not to be in its leadership. This was said on BNT by Prof. Ekaterina Mihaylova – a prominent figure of the democratic community in Bulgaria and a constitutionalist, quoted by novini.bg.
„We often think of the president as a „genderless“ person. No, he is one with clear political positions“, she noted.
According to her, the most important thing is that the next head of state of Bulgaria does not change the already chosen course of our country.
When asked whether the democratic community is looking for a „second Petar Stoyanov“ as a candidate, she answered as follows: „Then the name was not clear. The competition was between an incumbent president and a candidate who was not the most famous person at that time, but the strongest opposition political force stood behind him“.
“It is important that incumbent politicians begin to take steps that are in the direction of finding a way first to themselves, and then to find a way to the people“, also pointed out Prof. Mihaylova.
