Nikolay Denkov: Tomorrow may be too late! Come and defend democracy today - 1

Democracy in Bulgaria is under attack by political opponents and free people in the country are under threat. This was stated today from the rostrum of the parliament by Nikolay Denkov, co-chair of the parliamentary group "We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria".

"For a month now we have been witnessing public political arrests with dubious grounds. The demonstration of brute force is part of the attack against political opponents and free people in Bulgaria," Denkov emphasized in the official declaration.

The co-chair of the PP-DB paid special attention to the arrest of the vice-president of the CITUB Todor Kapitanov during the protest of the forestry employees. "Eight police officers handcuffed and dragged the deputy chairman of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, Todor Kapitanov, like a terrorist," Denkov pointed out.

Denkov warned that if there is no reaction to the repressions, this will lead to a dictatorship. "History teaches us that if there is no reaction in the bud of repressions, they lead to a dictatorship," he added.

At the end of his declaration, Denkov made a categorical appeal to the citizens. "Today I want to clearly state - we are not afraid, that is why we will be in the squares in Sofia, Varna, Ruse, Brussels, London, Berlin and Munich," he said.

The PP-DB declaration came in the context of recent political arrests in the country, including the detention of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and the arrest of the Vice President of the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions Todor Kapitanov.

According to the MP, the purpose of this "upward demonstrative repression" is to "intimidate people" and attack the opposition in the country.
