The complete change of the curricula, including the individual stages, requires over 5 years. This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, BGNES reported.
The reason for his comment is a parliamentary question whether the works of the Nobel Prize winner Elias Canetti, who was born in Bulgaria, will be included in the literature curricula. July 25 marked the 120th anniversary of the writer's birth.
Minister Valchev recalled that in the third week after he took office as Minister of Education and Science, a draft Concept for Changing the Curricula was presented. “The document has been published on the MES website as a first step and basis for a comprehensive and conceptual change in the curricula, a change that will guarantee the formation of skills and attitudes, personal development, the development of functional and socio-emotional intelligence, the building of lasting motivation for learning“, he stated and pointed out that concepts for curricula for each of the subjects for general education are currently being prepared and will be proposed for separate discussion, which will define the framework for change and serve as a task for the working groups and experts who will prepare the curricula – the next step in the preparatory stage.
The actual stage of the process will include the development and discussion of drafts of new curricula and the updating of the requirements for the development and approval of textbooks – a stage that requires the inclusion of all participants in the school education system, teachers in higher education institutions and experts, as well as the consideration of all proposals submitted during the public discussion, the Minister of Education explained. “The final stage in this lengthy process is the approval of the new curricula, the phased introduction of the curricula and textbooks, as well as the development of a feedback mechanism during their implementation“, he added.
Minister Valchev specifies that the overall change of the curricula, including the individual stages, requires a period of over 5 years.
