Who is the 22-year-old criminal man, detained and charged for the serious incident with a derailed tram in Sofia? His grandmother stood in front of the NOVA camera and told the version that her grandson shared with her, namely that he tried to stop the moving tram and that's why he pulled the handle. The accused has been detained for 72 hours, and his permanent arrest will be requested. The Whatman has not been charged, but is being investigated for a crime in his official capacity.
Good child. I still can't understand what he did - this is what the grandmother of the person detained in the tram accident said about her grandson. According to her, he is 22 years old, married, without a high school diploma, and working. He was raised by her.
"His father left for Germany very early, started a new family there. His mother was a drug addict - I took her to programs, I did everything, but she died. Just a child without confidants. From my point of view, he is a good grandson. I haven't made him do anything and he hasn't done it, I send him to the store, he hasn't refused me, from time to time he walks the dog, he goes to work", the woman shares.
The young man is criminally active. He was tried for theft.
„The act was committed during the probationary period of a previous conviction from April this year“, announced prosecutor Vihar Mihaylov.
„He has come home drunk many times. It's just that with the company he's in, they go around, steal, do mischief. They had taken some kind of stove. Just a child abandoned by his parents. And now I feel terribly guilty because I raised him," the grandmother adds.
However, the family's version of the incident differs from that of the police.
„He told me that he tried to stop the tram, reached through the open window and pulled the lever. Apparently he hadn't picked up speed. At least that's how I understood it. And then, out of fear, he just hid. "He waited for it to get dark and go home," the elderly woman added to her story.
According to the SDVR, video surveillance identified two individuals who attempted to board the tram car from the passenger door and, after failing, went around the vehicle and from its left side, through an unclosed window, tampered with it and set the tram in motion.
Without informing his relatives where he had been all day, the 22-year-old man returned home late in the evening.
The grandmother said that she had scolded him because she had been looking for him all day without success. He said that he had hidden from the police because he was afraid.
A 29-year-old man, known to the Ministry of Interior, was initially detained. After questioning, he showed his chats with a second young man. It was he who admitted his guilt. He was found after searching 11 addresses. The penalty for proving a crime is from 5 to 15 years in prison.
„They came looking for him several times. They entered his room to inspect it. We called to say that he had come home, because they had come several times to ask about him. His uncle called the First District Police Station and they came - they handcuffed him and took him away“, the grandmother explained.
„The Metropolitan Electric Transport“ issued an official statement on the case.
The driver left the cab without fully securing the train according to the rules. He has been temporarily suspended until the internal investigation is completed.
