The Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office has brought four charges against a 25-year-old teacher for fornication with minors after a report was filed, the state prosecution announced. The man had worked for several months as a geography teacher at the Sofia University "Sophrony Vrachanski" and was released on the day of receiving a report from a parent, Ivanka Kirkova, the director of the Regional Department of Education in Plovdiv, told BTA.
At the request of the prosecutor's office, a preventive measure of "detention in custody" was taken against the accused by the Plovdiv District Court, which was also confirmed by the Plovdiv District Court.
Earlier today it became clear that the geography teacher was arrested on January 26 for fornication with a student in Plovdiv.
The charges against him are for fornication, distribution of pornographic materials and for using information technology to communicate with two girls - aged 14 and 13, using the person's position of dependence, the young man's lawyer announced.
He is also accused of communicating with a 16-year-old girl through social networks in October 2025, and then fornicating with her. According to the defense attorney, the girls corresponded with the teacher through a fake profile.
They pretended to be older and also committed violations of school discipline. The case was solved after the father of one of the girls brought screenshots of chats on Facebook and other social networks with the man to the school.
The director of the Secondary School “Sofroniy Vrachanski“ Rostislav Koprinkov dismissed him immediately after receiving the signal. According to him, the teacher was on probation at the school. He taught students from the junior high and high school levels.
Koprinkov informed the Regional Department of Education in Plovdiv. "Since students are currently on distance learning due to the flu epidemic, starting Monday, a psychological support team from the RBO will work with those of them who need such support," he announced.
Koprinkov also explained that the screenshots brought by the parent of one of the injured girls contained conversations between her and him on social networks.
The young teacher has already been issued a preventive measure of "detention in custody" by the District Court, which is final. The pre-trial proceedings are being actively worked on under the supervision of the prosecutor's office. Witnesses have been questioned, expert opinions have been ordered, material evidence has been seized, and more.
This is the man's first job in the education system, as he was released while still on probation, Kirkova pointed out. A mobile psychological support group will start working at the school next week to assess what kind of help will be provided to the children. If the man is convicted of the charges against him, he will no longer be allowed to practice teaching, the director of the RBO added.
