Two arrested for intentional arson in our country are being tried for terrorism. They are criminally committed, with one being suspected of starting the fire in Veliko Tarnovo, and the other of setting fire to lawns in Sliven. The investigations are being conducted by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, "Nova TV" indicated.
„The act has been reclassified from „arson” to a crime under Chapter One of the Criminal Code”, the Ministry of Interior specified.
We recall that the man who deliberately started the fire in Veliko Tarnovo has two convictions. They are for antisocial behavior and possession of drugs. On Sunday, a fire engulfed two neighborhoods of the old capital city - “Buzludzha“ and “Cholakovtsi“, and municipal cameras captured the moment when two men were walking along an alley in the city, and one of them tried to set fire to dry grass several times, finally igniting it.
The 33-year-old man is about to be escorted from Veliko Tarnovo to Sofia. He has confessed. He explained that he got drunk on a birthday party and did not know what he was doing.
The men are expected to be charged with a serious crime - under Art. 108a of the Criminal Code, for causing confusion and fear among the population as a result of the deliberate burning of grass and bushes. The penalty for this crime is 5 to 15 years in prison.
The authorities emphasized that there are currently over 260 active fires. There is no danger to settlements or casualties. However, during the evacuation of several residents, a woman refused to leave her home and inhaled harmful gases. She is currently in good condition, but is in hospital.
