Hunters in the United States unexpectedly caught a giant alligator in the Ross-Barnett Reservoir on the Mississippi River, the Clarion Ledger reported.
The group of reptile hunters consisted of Joe Wyrick, his 13-year-old son and two other men. Wyrick said that they initially planned to catch a smaller alligator. They noticed the huge predator quite by chance, seeing it hidden among the branches near the shore. The men estimated the reptile to weigh about 700 pounds and be about 13 feet long.
According to Wyrick, the hunters decided to act quickly and, getting into a boat, threw out a fishing line. The alligator took the line and began to drag the boat. It took the hunters 15 minutes to subdue it with a harpoon. One of them said it was the easiest hunt of his entire career.
The men were unable to drag the catch into the boat themselves because of its weight. Other hunters helped them. “Everything went perfectly,” Wyrick said of the team's work.
