A cafe in Dubai has launched a cup of the tonic drink for 3,600 dirhams (about €850).
It is made from Geisha Nido 7 coffee beans, a rare variety grown on the slopes of the inaccessible Baru volcano in western Panama. Each lot (microlot) yields only a few kilograms of beans per harvest.
Julith Coffee managed to secure 20 kilograms of Nido 7 at a competitive auction in Panama. The battle for the lot was so fierce that the winner was determined after 549 bids, and the price reached 2.2 million dirhams (over €510,000). This makes Nido 7 the most expensive batch of coffee in history.
The establishment plans to brew approximately 400 cups of the drink. One of them is reserved for the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
