The 35-year-old husband contacted a sex psychologist because his wife suggested they try an open relationship and have sex with other people. The man had been married for several years and had hoped to have a child in the near future, but his plans fell apart.
The first warning sign for him was when his wife suggested he invite a guy she met at a bar and have a threesome. “It struck me, so I said no. "I said I don't want to be put in that position," he says.
Two weeks later, the topic of an open relationship comes up again: this time he asked his wife to plan a pregnancy, but was refused and was stunned by the reason.
„She caught me off guard again when she said, „How about we try a more open marriage? I will be happy if you start practicing safe sex with someone else,” said the disappointed husband.
The man was outraged by his wife's words, because he understood that she herself wanted some change. “Obviously, if I have sex with someone, she's going to sleep with that guy from the pub,”, he fumes, adding that he wants to keep the oath of fidelity to each other.
Sex coach Deidra Sanders commented on the case, saying that the woman is clearly missing something, but it is impossible to know exactly what because she is not talking about it. “Maybe she misses the thrill of knowing she is doing something wrong. But asking her to try an open relationship is a big step that requires both of them to cross a very important line, she says.
The specialist emphasizes that a man should not agree to his wife's proposal if he feels uncomfortable. In addition, he must make her understand that she must make a choice: maintain a healthy marriage or expand the boundaries of her sexuality.
