The heat in recent weeks affects not only people, but also of animals. Pavlikeni is the only zoo in the Veliko Tarnovo region. Over 200 animals of 40 species are bred in this zoo, which has been delighting people for more than 55 years.

Not only humans but also animals love cold water during the summer months. One of them are the pigs, which take cold baths several times a day in the heat.
"In the heat, we constantly spray cool water here on the pigs, on the cement and on the places where they live. And my employees put cold water on the birds every two hours‘‘, said Sezain Mehmedov - director of the zoo.
The park boasts a rich variety of animals including llamas, Cameroonian goats, Vietnamese pigs, mouflons, monkeys, Nandu and many others. It is also home to the famous albino kangaroo, named after the presenter of Bulgaria on 60 Minutes. – Mariana Vekilska. Recently, however, there was an accident with one camel that they could not help.
"I was puzzled, the camel was very lively, we fed it with everything it needed, but one day it didn't want to get up. I started calling different doctors, they did everything possible. We experienced it very hard, we called her Darko because it was a donation‘‘, recalls Sezain Mehmedov.
A veterinarian, a paramedic and many caretakers take care of the animals in the Pavliken zoo, which is the only one without an entrance fee.
,,The zoo is mainly supported by the municipality's funds, but we also have a lot of private individuals who help us, especially with food. The cooperatives that are here in our municipality almost all respond. They make a donation of corn, wheat, oats, alfalfa, for which I thank them very much‘‘.
"There is another place at the entrance where a donation is made. We can't complain that there is no good donation because last time there was 10,000 and up‘‘
The animals receive a tray with a varied menu every morning and afternoon. For their safety, there is a ban on feeding them food brought by visitors, but there are still people who break the rules of the zoo.
"They have recently been bringing bags of fruit and vegetables here, but we stop them and tell them not to throw them at the animals. To give them to us if we have to feed them, but not them. Because there's no guarantee that one of them isn't carrying something poisonous. It says everywhere don't feed the animals, but throw bananas at the camel. Something that should not be done".
And Cézaine tells that the zoo is looking for a partner for the universal favorite of all visitors, Vasco the bear. Although they found him a young girlfriend from the zoo in Lovech, things did not take off.
