In an Alpine village in Switzerland, a cow named Loni flew over the mountain, KNWA reported.
The unusual incident was spotted in the sky above the village of Blatten in the Alps, in the southern part of the country. A large-scale evacuation of people and animals was carried out there the day before due to the threat of a rockfall. The injured cow Loni had to be transported by helicopter.
A total of about 300 residents, 190 sheep, 26 cows and 20 rabbits were evacuated from the danger zone. The mayor of the village, Matthias Bellwald, praised the solidarity of the local community, which organized the operation within a few days. Natural disaster expert Eng. Alban Briger said the situation was complicated by fog, which made it difficult to accurately assess the threat.
The main danger comes from the unstable rock mass and glacier - their collapse could trigger a powerful avalanche of ice and rocks. In 2023, a similar threat forced the evacuation of the village of Brienz in eastern Switzerland, where a landslide stopped just meters from houses.
