Max Verstappen takes pole position in Abu Dhabi - 1

Max Verstappen won his eighth pole position of the Formula 1 season after triumphing in the extremely important qualifying session before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which the 2025 world drivers' title will be decided. Behind him were the two McLarens - Lando Norris and Oscar Piastre, BTA reports.

Piastre and George Russell from Mercedes led after the first and second sessions, but Verstappen made a stunning lap in the final qualifying session. In his last attempt, he covered the 5.281-kilometer track in Abu Dhabi in 1:22.207 minutes and improved his own time for first position.

Norris and Piastre tried to attack pole position again, but failed. The Briton will start alongside Verstappen, 0.201 seconds behind on his flying lap, while Piastre took third place, 0.230 behind. He will be joined on the second row by George Russell for Mercedes, while Charles Leclerc for Ferrari and Fernando Alonso for Aston Martin will take third.

Norris leads the standings with 408 points, 12 more than Verstappen, while Piastre, who has not won since August, is four points behind.
