Former German football coach Christoph Daum has died aged 70 after a long battle with cancer, world agencies report, citing his family, BTA reported.
Relatives of Daum said he died Saturday "surrounded by his family". After being diagnosed with cancer in 2022, Daum initially withdrew from public life, but later returned to the spotlight.
"Cancer chose the wrong body," he said in interviews, using his indomitable spirit to inspire others. Daum won the Bundesliga title with Stuttgart and coached nine different clubs over 30 years, winning ten trophies.
He was tipped to take over the German national team until his career was rocked in 2000 when he admitted to taking cocaine, leading to his sacking from Bayer Leverkusen.
