Manchester United decide to save on Sir Alex Ferguson VIDEO - 1

The legendary manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson has been released from his position as the club's ambassador, reports The Athletic, quoted by Sportal.bg.

The decision was made by minority owners INEOS as part of their cost-cutting measures at the “red devils”.

After ending his coaching career in 2013, Ferguson was appointed United's ambassador, a role he held for more than a decade on an annual salary of £2.16m. He is also part of the club's football board, which is different from the management board. Majority owners the Glazers have never had a problem paying the 82-year-old Scotsman for his representative duties, but INEOS' financial measures have caught up with him too.

So last week, co-owner Jim Ratcliffe held a meeting with Ferguson, where he informed him of his decision. This has been done amicably, with the club legend continuing to be a non-executive director and welcome at the team's matches.
