European wrestling champion Kamen Penev has passed away. This was announced by the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation on its website. Penev left us just five days before his 66th birthday. The date and place of the funeral will be announced later, added BFW.

Kamen Penev has two bronze medals from world championships in his collection. He is a silver medalist from the "Friendship" tournament, which replaced the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984 (for the boycotting nations from the Eastern Bloc - ed.), champion of "Dan Kolov". He achieved all his great successes as a CSKA competitor, and after the end of his sports career he worked as a coach. He was the national coach of the junior representative team and an assistant to the men's team led by Simeon Shterev, the federation added.

Kamen Todorov Penev was born on January 15, 1959 in Svishtov. He completed his primary education at the "Filip Sakelarievich" elementary school in his hometown, and later graduated from the "Olympic Hopes" secondary school in Chepelare. He is a wrestler - freestyle. During his sports and competitive activities, he won all the republican championships in his category, received a number of international awards. In 1978, he was second among the youth at the European Championship in Finland. In 1981, he won third place at the World Championship in Skopje and became a deserved master of sports. First place followed in 1983. at the European Championship in Budapest for men in the category up to 68 kg. and third place at the World Championship in Kiev. For his ten years of active sports activity and for his contribution to the development of sports in Svishtov, he was awarded the prize “Honorary Citizen of Svishtov“.
