Russian swimmer Valeria Salamatina has been banned for two years for using banned stimulants, the International Anti-Doping Agency (ITA) announced, BTA reported.

She was part of the relay team that finished fifth in the 4x200-meter freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics. Salamatina tested positive for the diuretic furosemide in an unscheduled test during training in March. It can be used by athletes to lose weight quickly, the agency added, quoted by the AP.

Salamatina, 26, is banned until May 2027. The Russian also competed in the individual 200-meter freestyle event in Tokyo, where she reached the semifinals. With the Russian relay team, she is a silver medalist at the 2018 European Swimming Championships.
