Filippo Inzaghi is officially the new head coach of Palermo, just a few days after leaving Pisa.

The Milan and Juventus legend, and older brother of former Inter coach and current Al-Hilal coach Simone Inzaghi, had an impressive season with the Tuscan club, leading them to promotion to Serie A in the 2024/25 season.

Despite the historic achievement and Pisa's imminent return to the top flight for the first time in over 30 years, Inzaghi decided to step down from his position on Friday, after less than a year in charge. The 51-year-old specialist has already signed a long-term contract with Palermo. According to Italian media, the Sicilian club paid a €1m release clause to secure his services.

Palermo finished eighth in Serie B last season – just one point away from the promotion play-offs, but six places behind Pisa. This will be Inzaghi's ninth coaching job. During his time at Pisa, Inzaghi won 23 of his 39 games, an impressive 59% success rate.

In total, he has managed 355 games in his coaching career, winning 149 of them. Under the standard three-point-for-a-win system, this gives him an average of 1.5 points per game. The Palermo appointment marks a new ambitious step for Inzaghi, who will aim to lead the Sicilians back to Serie A.
