Rivian's Strange Electric Bike - 1

While we await Rivian's next steps in the electric pickup truck and SUV segment, the company has surprisingly unveiled its ambitions for urban micromobility through its subsidiary Also. With a focus on compact electric vehicles, Also has launched two new electric bikes - the two-wheeled TM-B and the four-wheeled TM-Q, as well as the cutting-edge Alpha Wave helmet. According to the company, these products promise "a breakthrough in safety and connectivity" in urban environments.

The Also TM-B (Transcendent Mobility - Bike) electric bike attracts attention not only with its futuristic design, but also with its innovative drive system. It is equipped with 24 x 2.6-inch wheels and uses the company's proprietary DreamRide technology.

The key here is the unique pedaling solution: the rider pedals on a generator that charges the battery, and the traction motor drives the rear wheel via a Gates carbon belt. This approach provides smooth and powerful acceleration.

Power and range: The motor offers an impressive 180 Nm of torque, enough for quick starts or tackling steep climbs, even when carrying a heavy load. The maximum speed reaches 32 km/h without pedaling or 45 km/h with the help of the cyclist.

Battery and charging: The replaceable battery is available in two versions - 538 Wh and 808 Wh, with the larger one providing a range of up to 160 km. Charging is fast - 240 W, which allows a full charge in 2 hours and 20 minutes (for the smaller battery). An additional bonus is the ability to reverse charge (power bank function) via the two USB Type-C ports. The charge level is monitored on a bright E Ink display.

Functionality: The frame is modular, allowing for easy conversion of the bike into a cargo or family version. The front fork has an air shock absorber, and the seat is unlocked by sliding along a 5-inch round touchscreen.

Safety: The hydraulic brakes are reinforced with an energy recovery system that can increase the range by about 25%. When the owner walks away, the TM-B automatically locks the battery, rear wheel and frame, while also sending signals of unauthorized access and transmitting its location in real time.

Also TM-B Launch Edition is now available for pre-order for $4,500, with deliveries starting in spring 2026. A more affordable version for $4,000 is also expected, as well as a Performance model.
