An explosion occurred near the entrance to Bagram air base in Parwan province, Afghanistan, Afghan International reported, citing a source.
According to him, the explosion occurred near the eastern side of the military facility. The cause of the incident was not specified. Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled detonation of the explosives found, the source added.
The incident occurred amid statements by US President Donald Trump about Washington's intention to regain control of the same base, according to Afghan International.
On September 21, the American leader wrote in Truth Social that Afghanistan would face consequences if the country's authorities did not agree to return control of the US base. Commenting on his words, Afghan officials urged Washington to avoid repeating "past failed approaches" and demonstrate rationality.
From 2001 to 2021, Bagram Airfield served as the largest base of the US-led international coalition in Afghanistan. On July 1, 2021, the Americans left the airbase, and on August 15, it came under the control of the Taliban movement.
