The Israeli army said on Monday it would demolish the homes of two Palestinian gunmen who shot dead six people at a Jerusalem bus stop several days ago in one of the deadliest attacks in the city in recent years, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The shooting comes after the nearly two-year war in the Gaza Strip that has devastated the enclave, and amid a wave of attacks by Jewish settlers against Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
The attackers in Jerusalem were shot dead on the spot. Israel claims that the demolition of the homes of the attackers' relatives and their villagers is a means of deterring future attacks.
Palestinians and human rights groups say it is a form of collective punishment that is prohibited by international law.
Earlier this month, Israel ordered the demolition of all homes built without permits in Qatana and Qubeiba, the attackers' hometowns, and said that 750 people there would have their work permits revoked.
