French President Emmanuel Macron was stopped by US police on a street in New York after the French leader's speech at the United Nations headquarters. Macron's detention in the US was prompted by street closures due to US President Donald Trump's motorcade.
The French president's stop by law enforcement in New York was captured on video, which was later distributed in the media. The published footage shows how the French leader, after his car was stopped, gets out and personally approaches the police to inquire about the situation. One of them recognized Macron, but refused to let him go. "I'm very sorry, Mr. President, everything is blocked right now," he explained to the politician.
After the French president failed to convince the police to let him in, Macron called his American counterpart and told him that he was blocked because of him. "You know what? I'm waiting outside because everything is blocked because of you," Macron said. Judging by the footage, however, the police never missed the French leader's car because Macron continued on foot. Passersby began taking pictures with Macron as soon as he found himself on the street.
According to media reports, the streets of New York, which were closed to Trump's motorcade, were reopened to pedestrians a few minutes later, and Macron walked to the French Embassy in the United States. The politician's walk took about half an hour. During that time, several people approached him to take pictures. One of the men who approached him even kissed him on the head, and Macron thanked him for his attention.
