Norwegian police said today that they were investigating an explosion on a street in central Oslo and later carried out a controlled explosion of a second explosive device found at the same location, saying they had detained a suspect for questioning, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

So far, there is no information about casualties in the explosion in the central part of the Norwegian capital, in close proximity to a university building and about 500 meters from the royal palace and the Israeli embassy.

The authorities have sent a telephone warning to local residents, warning them of the explosion.

The second explosive device found at the scene of the incident appeared to be a live grenade, a police officer told journalists.

According to him, the main version that investigators are working on is a settling of scores between criminal gangs.

Te Vau 2 television and the newspaper "Aftenposten", quoting anonymous sources, said that the person detained by the police in connection with the explosion was a 13-year-old teenager.

The police have so far refused to comment further on the case, Reuters reports.
