At least 14 people have died and dozens are missing in Taiwan after a mud wall collapsed in Hualien County.

According to the news portal Focus Taiwan, a lake formed by landslides has burst its banks due to heavy rains caused by Typhoon Ragasa.

According to the report, floods have inundated the village of Guangfu. The waters have receded, but the streets are covered in a thick layer of mud and debris. Rescuers are searching house by house and the exact number of missing remains unclear. Authorities have evacuated more than 3,000 people.

Floods in Guangfu, about 40 kilometers south of Hualien City, have inundated a railway station and destroyed a bridge on a local highway.

Super Typhoon Ragasa, with hurricane-force winds of more than 50 meters per second, hit Hong Kong and Macau in China on September 24 and is moving toward Guangdong and Hainan provinces, as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. On September 26, the typhoon is expected to move into northern Vietnam and Cambodia, and its impact will also be felt in southwestern Yunnan province.
