US President Donald Trump remains committed to peace in Ukraine and shows patience, but it is not unlimited. This position was expressed on Tuesday by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to the situation in Ukraine, News.bg reports.
“The president is a very patient man. He is very committed to peace, but his patience is not unlimited“, Rubio said. According to him, Trump has shown extreme restraint by not imposing additional sanctions in the hope of a breakthrough in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
Rubio stressed that the US president retains the option to strengthen sanctions against Russia and deliver new weapons systems to Ukraine.
“And as Trump has repeatedly stated, he has the ability and options to impose additional economic sanctions on the Russian Federation if that is necessary to end the conflict in Ukraine,“ said the Secretary of State.
He added that under certain circumstances, Washington could sell Kiev defensive weapons, and potentially offensive weapons.
