The Turkish defense company “Bogaizici Savunma“ (Boğaziçi Savunma) announced that it has developed drone protection systems in urban environments, which are already being tested at several airports, the website „Türkiye Today“ reported today, quoted by BTA.
The news comes in the context of recent drone detections at several European airports, which highlighted the threat that drones pose to civil aviation and caused delays and economic losses, „Türkiye Today“ notes.
„Although drone protection systems are mainly used in military zones, the risks have now spread to urban environments,“ commented Fatih Aslan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of „Boğaziçi Savunma“, emphasizing that recently, amateur drone flights and even wedding photography have begun to pose a threat that could cancel flights and lead to serious economic losses.
“We are developing products that are slightly different from military ones, capable of countering drones that threaten civilian flights without disrupting existing systems. Our products are ready and are currently being tested in a pilot region“, Aslan said, emphasizing that the company is also testing the systems at several airports in Europe, Asia and Africa.
