Poland will send troops to Denmark to help secure upcoming European Union summits, following a request from Copenhagen, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, quoted by the Polish news agency PAP, BTA reported.

The first event - an informal meeting of the European Council - begins amid the drone incursion in Denmark last week, which forced the temporary closure of several airports. Tusk said Warsaw viewed Copenhagen's request for help as a clear act of solidarity.

“We welcome with satisfaction the Danish government's request to send soldiers to protect the European summit,“ he told a cabinet meeting, adding that the measure would also extend to the European Political Community meeting in Denmark.

Tusk recalled Copenhagen's support for Warsaw in early September, when multiple Russian drones violated Polish airspace, forcing the country and its NATO allies, including Denmark, to scramble fighter jets to shoot them down.

Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kościńska-Kamiś wrote on the “Ex“ platform that 30 soldiers from the Polish army would soon support the allies in ensuring the security and protection of Danish infrastructure during the the European Council summit in Copenhagen.

“The soldiers of the Polish military contingent “Viking“ are ready to leave“, he added.

Meanwhile, Polish President Karol Nawrocki signed a resolution on the deployment of the Polish military contingent to reinforce the Royal Danish Armed Forces.

Specially equipped Polish soldiers are guarding military and civilian areas from September 30 to October 3, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces wrote in “Ex“.
