More than 8,000 children's data stolen, British police say - 1

British police said last night that they had arrested two people on suspicion of computer crime and extortion after a cyberattack on a London childcare company in which the data of more than 8,000 children was stolen, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

The hackers refused to say how much money they demanded from the company that runs 18 kindergartens in London and the surrounding area for children up to the age of 5.

The criminal group reported the attack on its dark web portal last month. She proved her claim by publishing the names, photos, home addresses and contact information of the families of 10 children she said had attended one of the company's centers.

London police said the two men, aged 17 and 22, had been arrested and would remain in custody for questioning.

The hacking attack raised serious concerns about child safety and data privacy and was the latest in a series of similar serious cases in Britain that have shocked the country this year, Reuters notes.
