Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog praised his American counterpart Donald Trump for his role in brokering the agreement between Israel and the Palestinian group "Hamas" to end the war in Gaza. According to the Israeli head of state, Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution, DPA reported, BTA reported.
"There is no doubt that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize," Herzog wrote on the social network "Ex" and described the agreement as "an opportunity to heal wounds and a new horizon of hope for the region".
Last night, Trump announced that indirect negotiations in Egypt had led to a breakthrough. Under the first phase of the US peace plan, all hostages in Gaza will be released and Israeli forces will withdraw to previously agreed positions. "Hamas" has confirmed its participation in the agreement.
In a speech to the UN General Assembly recently, Trump said that since taking office for his second term, he has already stopped several wars and should therefore receive appropriate recognition in the form of a Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Committee is expected to announce this year's laureate tomorrow.
