We are trying to convince everyone that nothing will happen from the peace meetings in Ukraine if Kiev or the EU do not participate in them, said today the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas at a press conference after the meeting of the foreign ministers of the union countries in Luxembourg, BTA reported.
US President Donald Trump sincerely seeks to end the war. Russia is the one who refuses and we must make it ask for peace, added Kallas. Putting pressure on Ukraine is the wrong approach, it is the attacked country. The war will end with the application of pressure on Russia, she pointed out. Since February, Ukraine has been ready for an unconditional ceasefire, but Russia has no real interest in peace. Putin will only negotiate seriously if he thinks he is losing, Kallas concluded.
According to her, there is broad support in the EU Council for the proposal to use frozen Russian assets in the interests of Ukraine. Kallas confirmed that she expects new sanctions against Russia to be approved by the end of the week, as well as work to begin on expanding the measures already in place against Moscow.
