A Turkish truck driver has been detained by the Greek Coast Guard at the port of Thessaloniki after seven Syrians, including four children, were found in the trailer of his truck, the online edition of the newspaper “Kathimerini“ reports, BTA reported.
The statements of the detained Syrian citizens, who are relatives, claim that they boarded the vehicle in a parking lot located near Istanbul, without the driver's knowledge. During questioning, the 24-year-old truck driver also stated that the seven people boarded the truck without his knowledge and denied transporting migrants for money.
Despite the statements of the driver and the migrants, investigators have ordered the driver's detention and launched a further investigation into the case.
