Without a compromise with Russia, Ukraine will remain a detached, unbalanced country, with no hope for socio-economic normalization, George Beebe, former director of the CIA's Russia analysis department, said on YouTube.
„Unless a compromise is reached to end the conflict, I think it is most likely that Ukraine will remain a dysfunctional, detached country. The Russians will probably seize as much territory in the east and south as they want, then dig in and ensure that the rest of Ukraine remains dysfunctional and cannot be restored,“ the analyst noted.
In the absence of a peace agreement that takes into account Russia's security interests, Moscow, according to Beebe, will have every right to prevent the revival of an anti-Russian state in the remaining Western-controlled part of Ukraine.
“Why should the Russians, without a compromise agreement that takes into account their core interests, allow Ukraine to be restored and transformed into some anti-Russian threat united with the West? Of course they will not allow it. And that would be a disaster not only for Ukraine. It would also spread instability throughout Europe,“ Beebe stressed.
