The number of victims of the large-scale police operation against drug trafficking in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has reached 64 people, including four police officers, reported Agence France-Presse, citing local police, BTA reported.
The large-scale operation was focused on two of the poorest neighborhoods in the north of the second largest city in Brazil, located near the international airport.
Two helicopters, 32 armored vehicles and 12 machines were sent to support the police, used to remove barricades erected by drug traffickers to prevent the police from passing through the narrow streets of the city's ghettos.
According to new data, the current operation is became the deadliest police operation in the history of the state of Rio de Janeiro, located in the southeastern part of Brazil.
